Powepoint Lag: How to Stop and Get Rid of Image Lagging in Powerpoint 2007

This is a fix I frequently use to stop the lagging in Powerpoint 2007 presentations.

If you get too many images, Powerpoint starts to lag.

If you insert a certain image (image size doesn't seem to matter here; it's almost a mystery), Powerpoint starts to lag.

I don't understand this lagging, but I also cannot have this lagging while doing Presentations.

So here is the simple workaround I have developed for getting rid of the Powerpoint lag. The major drawback is that once you use this process the slide that is causing the lag cannot be changed, so make sure that it looks exactly like you want it to look before you start.

Here is what you do:

1. Arrange everything, through the dreadfully slow lagging, on the slide that is causing the lag. Make it look exactly how you want it to look.

2. Click on "save as" under the Office button (the circular button in the top left).

3. Now you have to change the "save as type." This is found right below where you would type the "file name." Change it to JPEG File Interchange Format.  This is saving it as an image rather than a Powerpoint presentation.

4. Give the file a new name under "file name." This is the name for the slide that you are going to turn into an image.

5. Make sure that you know the file location that you are saving to. Desktop works well for me because I can than easily check it and delete it when I am done.  Now save it.

6. You will be asked, "Do you want to export every slide in the presentation or only the current one?" Answer "current slide only." For this to work, you need to make sure that the slide you want to save is the one that you are looking at within Powerpoint.

7. Now, an image of that slide has been saved. We're almost there.

8. Now insert a blank slide where below the lagging slide. This is easily done by right clicking on the space between two slides and selecting "new slide."

9. On you new blank slide, right click and choose "format background."

10. Under the "fill" options, choose "picture or text file."

11. Below that, "insert from" will have appeared with the option of "file." Choose "file."

12. Go find your picture (former slide) and choose it.

13.  Now delete the slide that has been causing you all the trouble in Powerpoint. You can do this easily by just selecting the slide and pressing the "del" button on your keyboard.

Tada! You are done. You have now changed your lagging slide into an image that flows smoothly with Powerpoint.
